Teleconsultation Platform
Teleconsultation is the synchronous clinical encounter conducted over video or audio — for follow-up consultations, specialist opinions, remote populations, and continuity of care across distance. In HealthOS, the teleconsultation note, prescription, billing, and follow-up flow into the same record as an in-person visit — there is no separate teleconsultation product.
Last reviewed:
Bolted-on teleconsultation products produce a parallel record. The note is in the telemedicine vendor's database; the prescription requires retyping; the bill must be reconciled across two systems. The patient and clinician experience two products instead of one consultation.
How HealthOS runs it
The institutional workflow.
- 01
Patient and clinician join the consultation from the Patient Platform; identity and appointment context are pre-loaded.
- 02
Consultation is conducted with the clinical record visible to the clinician inside the same surface — orders, history, and assessments inline.
- 03
Prescription is issued through the same prescription engine as in-person visits; medication safety checks fire identically.
- 04
The consultation note flows into the longitudinal patient record without re-entry.
- 05
Billing, follow-up scheduling, and patient instructions are generated from the same event.
Canonical layer
This workflow runs on the Patient Platform.
The Patient Platform is one of the layers of HealthOS. It is not a separate product; it is a property of the substrate. See the Patient Platform layer →

Frequently asked
Is the teleconsultation note a separate document?
No. The note is part of the longitudinal patient record. Modality is declared as metadata; the document is the same object as an in-person visit note.
Can teleconsultations be reimbursed under standard payer rules?
Reimbursement rules are jurisdiction-specific. The Financial Intelligence layer applies the appropriate rule set per region; the encounter type carries the modality flag.
A teleconsultation is a consultation. The modality is metadata, not a separate product. Signed by the Veronara Clinical Layer Office.
